Sunday School
Are children in Sunday School during the entire Service?
At UCB, children join the adults for the first half of worship. There is a Children's Message with the minister and always lots of good music. Children leave for Sunday School shortly after the offering is taken. Sunday School lasts until 11:45 a.m. This gives parents a few minutes at coffee hour to relax before the younger members join them!
What is the structure of Sunday School?
Our Sunday School begins with a Treasure Chest. The children have the opportunity to memorize Bible verses and recite them the following week. Whoever memorized the verse gets a prize from the Treasure Chest! After all, we treasure God's Word in our hearts! Afterwards, the younger children watch a puppet show based on the lesson of the day.
Sunday School uses a curriculum called Rock Solid for children in grades K-3. It is a bible story based curriculum. Each unit has a particular focus. Stories are conveyed through crafts and discussion. Often, the minister's message ties into what goes on in the classroom as the curriculum is based on the church calendar. The Junior's curriculum changes each month. Recently, we have studied the order of worship and heard from members of the congregation about their work and journeys of faith.
How are the classes divided?
The Sunday School is divided into three classrooms:
- Nursery: Age 3 and under
- Grades K-3
- Grades 4-6
Who teaches the classes?
Adult members of the congregation teach the classes. We welcome any member of the congregation who would like to teach for a month or two, especially those who have children in the Program and would like to know more about what goes on in class. Please contact us and/or sign up! A sign-up sheet is posted on the Christian Education Board located near the kitchen in the hallway leading to Fellowship Hall. Training, support and supplies are provided.
